The Winners Are … TGR’s 2017 Editors’ Picks
In The Gourmet Retailer’s Sixth Annual Editors’ Picks Awards, we pay tribute to 52 of our favorite products introduced at retail during the past year.
As in previous years, we put out a call for nominations, and we received hundreds of entries across all store categories. To help us winnow down the field, we sought the input of both our non-editorial colleagues and the staff of our sister publications in our Deerfield, Ill., office.
Thanks to the group participation, we were able to make the final call on which products made the cut as 2017 Editors’ Picks, based on a three-pronged criterion of innovation, taste/functionality and value.
Along the way, products that made it into what we came to think of as the “Gold Circle” — those that earned across-the-board accolades, even from our pickiest participants — included such crowd-pleasers as 34 Degrees Vanilla Crisps and Rigoni di Asiago Nocciolata Dairy Free, which are especially delicious when enjoyed together. Brooklyn Cookie Company Mushroom Meringues also was a hit with taste-testers, even those unsure about meringue.
On the housewares side, we had several standouts including the Cangshan Cutlery Co. A Series knives; Jura E8 coffee brewing system and Woll Diamond Lite Pro Fry Pan.
