Saputo to Close Wis. Facility
Saputo Inc. announced plans to close its Fond du Lac, Wis., manufacturing facility in May 2018 in order to increase operational efficiency. Production will be incorporated into the newly constructed blue cheese facility in Almena, Wis.
The closure will impact 126 employees, who will be offered the possibility of transferring to other Saputo locations or with severance and outplacement support.
The cheesemaker, based in Montreal, Canada, said closing the plant and moving production to the new facility will save more than $5.5 million a year. Over recent years, Saputo has maintained efforts to pursue additional efficiencies and decrease costs while strengthening its market presence. This decision is part of the Company's continual analysis of its overall activities, according to a press release.
