Macy’s Sells Frango Brand

Cincinnati-based Macy’s sold the Frango mint brand to Garrett Brands, bringing ownership of the chocolate mints back to Chicago. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Garrett Brands will not sell the mints in its Garrett Popcorn Shops, but Frango products will be sold in Macy’s State Street store in Chicago as well as 350 locations across the country and on Garret will develop, sell and distribute Frango products.

“Frango is a perfect fit for our company’s portfolio, aligning well with our strategy to preserve and grow iconic brands that have historic franchise value with a unique and storied past,” Garrett owner and CEO Lance Chody said in a statement on Macy’s website. “This is an exciting opportunity to expand the reach and offerings of the delicious Frango confections consumers know and love to more people in more places, just as we have done with our other brands.”

The sale of Frango is the latest move for the department store, which announced earlier this year that it was closing several dozen stores.
