Jet.com Announces Higher-end Private Label
Walmart’s Jet.com is launching its first private label brand of higher-end food and household items, with 60 products planned before Christmas. The products will include coffee pods and olive oil that will compete against the popular Whole Foods 365 store brand, which is owned by Amazon.
The new brand, Uniquely J, caters to the young, urban market, what the company has dubbed metro millennials, a demographic that Jet.com reaches more successfully than Walmart does. “From the boldly designed packaging to the fun, witty label copy and quality ingredients, everything was designed with this metro consumer in mind,” said Jet.com spokeswoman Meredith Klein in a New York Post article.
Jet.com also will reportedly start selling items from upscale brands Bonobos and Modcloth, which Walmart purchased this year but doesn’t offer on its own e-commerce site.
Uniquely J items will be offered exclusively on Jet.com for the first year and will then be available on Walmart.com. The products “will be better quality than many of the national name brands,” said retail consultant Burt Flickinger in the New York Post article.
