It’s Not Easter Without Candy
Nearly all of American Easter baskets will contain chocolate or candy this year, according to a national survey by the National Confectioners Association.
“Americans enjoy having chocolate and candy to help make celebrations like Easter even more fun and special,” said John Downs, president and CEO of the National Confectioners Association.
Along with the nearly 90 percent of baskets that will contain chocolate or candy, 79 percent also will include non-edible items like crayons, stuffed animals or books. Three-quarters of those surveyed indicated that they planned to share chocolate and candy with friends and family during the holiday.
When given a choice, more than half (52 percent) prefer chocolate eggs filled with cream, caramel or other treats. But one-third prefer solid chocolate eggs while 16 percent would rather the chocolate eggs be hollow.
