Concord Cookware Closes Up Shop

Concord Cookware in Concord, Mass., shut its doors on May 28. Meghan and Bob Prestidge have operated the store since 2004 after they took over from her parents, Louise and Bill Barber.

The Barbers previously owned the Cheese Shop, which is now owned by Peter Lovis, before purchasing the cookware store in 1983. The Prestidges changed the store’s name to Concord Cookware from Concord Shop in 2013. Meghan Prestidge cited growing competition from the internet as the reason for the closure.

“It’s very sad. It’s not a choice that we liked to do,” she said in local report. She plans to start a video blog demonstrating how to use the items the store sold.

The kitchenware store focused on Made in USA and European-made quality kitchen tools from brands such as Lodge, Wusthof, Swiss Diamond, de Buyer and more.

Meghan told Concord Wicked Local she plans to start a blog with videos to demonstrate items sold at Concord Cookware. “I back off (from retail) for now, but it’s not goodbye. It’s more like ‘see you later,’” she said in the interview.
