Chinese Dairy Looks to Buy Stonyfield Farms


Yili Industrial Group Co., the largest dairy in China, is interested in buying Stonyfield Farm from DanoneWave, which must divest the yogurt maker as part of the Danone/WhiteWave merger.

The Chinese company has bid about $850 million for the number one organic yogurt maker in the United States; the bid is larger than was expected for a company with $50 million in earnings and revenue of $370 million in 2016, according to reports.

Dean Foods also in the auction to buy Stonyfield, a reversal for the company which spun off its WhiteWave business in 2013.
