Carr Valley Wins 10 Honors at World Cheese Awards
Carr Valley Cheese Co. brought home 10 honors from the World Cheese Awards in London, the largest cheese-only competition in the world with 3,000 cheeses from 35 countries submitted for judging by 230 judges.
This is the 10th year that Carr Valley has been honored at the event, racking up more than 50 total wins. This year, the cheesemaker won Super Gold for Shepherd’s Blend, an artisan cheese made with a proprietary blend of sheep, goat and cow milk that results in a off-white 10-pound wheel aged at a higher temperature for a smooth, buttery flavor. By being designated as Super Gold, it marks it as one of the 66 best cheeses in the world; the fifth time Carr Valley has won this honor. Its past Super Gold winners include Smoked Billy Blue (2015), Billy Blue (2013), Cave Aged Marisa (2013) and Cardona (2011).
“We work hard and put a lot of care into the cheeses we make,” says Owner and Master Cheesemaker Sid Cook, “it’s really gratifying to see the final product get recognition on the world stage.”
This year’s other wins include silver for Bread Cheese, Cave Aged Mellage, Bessie’s Blend, Cave Aged Cardona, Black Sheep Truffle and Aged Marisa. The cheesemaker took home bronze for its Canaria, Gran Canaria and Glacier Point Gorgonzola.
