818 Market to Open in Maryland
After two decades, Catonsville, Md., is getting a grocery again with 818 Market, named after is address on Frederick’s Road, scheduled to open later this year, reported the Baltimore Sun. Owners Patrick Baldwin and Dan Zakai plan to offer groceries, fresh produce, a butcher, cheese shop and grab-and-go sushi offerings when the gourmet store opens.
In an email to the local newspaper, Baldwin noted that the concept will be modeled after Graul’s, Eddie’s and Santoni’s, other locally owned and popular grocery stores.
“There’s a market niche here,” Baldwin said in the paper’s report. “If you fill it, people will come and support local brands, as opposed to big national chains.”
Construction on the 9,000-square-foot store is set to begin in March. Baldwin and Zakai hope to source the gourmet products locally to help keep prices down.
